EUSPACE for Business

The High-level Space conference that will take place in Graz, Styria (Austria), on 5-6 November will address the opportunities and issues regarding the further development of the European Space Policy.

It is organised under the auspices of the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union with the support of the European Commission.

The many New Space initiatives taking shape all over the world are having an impact on the global competitive landscape in the space sector, and may also profoundly change the customer/provider relationship between institutions and industry in Europe and in international cooperation. In addition, the deployment of Galileo and Copernicus and their extensive use for the implementation of many public policies or business ventures raises the level of criticality of such European space assets in orbit. Therefore, it is timely and opportune to envisage ways to better account for their resilience to natural hazards as well as to anticipate the consequences of an increasingly congested and contested space environment. It is also important to discuss how to ensure that the competitiveness and innovation capacity of the European space economy and industrial base can be further developed, so that many jobs are created, through established space actors, but also through startups. Finally, given the impact of space solutions on the everyday life, well-being and security of citizens, the conference will discuss how to empower the developers of such applications through public and private investment.

The Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, through this conference, wants to raise awareness of the important stakes related to the evolution of European Space Policy and to provide insightful perspectives on the following issues:

  • New Space developments and consequences for institutions and industry

  • Security challenges to space infrastructures These are by sheer nature global issues that need to be addressed from an international perspective. In this respect, the conference will include participation of EU and non-European speakers.
